From a Blogger/Publisher point of view, CTR is one of those factors that plays an important role in generating money and retaining the advertisers. If you fail to give enough click, your advertisers will run away. So, let’s dive into the world of CTR and understand what it is.

What is CTR?

CTR stands for Click Though rate. In simple words, it means the number of times an advertisement is clicked divided by the number of times advertisement, ad unit or the page containing advertisement is viewed.

It is the percentage of No of clicks on advertisement and number of page views.

CTR = Number of clicks / Number of exposures.

CTR% = Number of clicks * 100 / # of exposures

So in simple words, if you have an ad running and it’s seen by 100 people but got only 5 clicks, your CTR is 5%. Point to be noted here is that higher the percentage of CTR, the better advertisement you will get. So it’s advisable to place advertisements only at the places which are viewable and can be clicked easily.join my famous Facebook group HELPROBO and talk about it more. 

Now, One of the most common questions is What is Good CTR or  I’m getting enough click on my Adsense but my revenue is very low.

Let me cut out the myth about Adsense CTR here, getting too many clicks on Adsense ads will never guarantee good income, the key here is to target ads which give good PPC (Pay Per Click). On such ads, even few clicks will yield more money than 100 clicks.

Today in an official announcement AdSense team revealed the exact detail on percentage of revenue they give to publishers.

Here I have summarized the announcement so that you would know the revenue sharing between AdSense & you for different ad types.

AdSense for content:

AdSense for content is most widely used advertisement inventory from adsense. One of the major reason is it’s contextual advertisement, which helps in getting better CTR. AdSense revealed they pay 68% of revenue to their publishers and rest 32% they keep to maintain and development of new technology. This 68% seems to be fair to me.

Adsense for Search:

For people using Ads\Sense for search, Google AdSense pays you 51% of rev share. This seems low to me, but I would love to know your thoughts on the same.

Other AdSense Unit:

For other ad units like AdSense for feeds, AdSense for mobile and AdSense for games, Google added they are not going to disclose the rev share for this, as they’re quickly evolving, and we’re still learning about the costs associated with supporting them. Revenue shares for these products can vary from product to product since our costs in building and maintaining these products can vary significantly

Why AdSense revealed it’s revenue share?

Sharing this vital information will help publishers to build more trust in Google adsense. For me, it seems like growing influence of other ad networks made Google revealed their AdSense revenue share, as they also added

“Additionally, when considering different monetization options, we encourage you to focus on the total revenue generated from your site, rather than just revenue share, which can be misleading. For example, you would receive $68 with AdSense for content for $100 worth of advertising that appeared on your site. If another ad network offers an 80% revenue share, but is only able to collect $50 from ads served on your site, you would earn $40. In this case, a higher revenue share wouldn’t make up for the lower revenue yield of the other ad network.”

We all know that AdSense is to date the best contextual high-paying ad network.

AdSense has very strictly enforced program policies, and if they find that a website is in violation of their TOS, they disable the offending account.  It is very important to follow AdSense’s quality and program guidelines, in order to avoid having your AdSense account banned.


Google adsense

One of the most common questions any new blogger will ask is, “What is the maximum number of AdSense units I can put on a page?”

Google AdSense offers different types of ads, and most are categorized in the following formats:

AdSense content unit
AdSense link unit
AdSense for search
AdSense used to offer AdSense video units as well, but they ultimately retired this option.
Here are the maximum AdSense ad units allowed for a web page:
AdSense content unit

You can place a maximum of three content units.
Content units are available in following sizes:
728*90, 468*60, 234*60, 125*125, 120*600, 160*600, 180*150, 120*240, 200*200, 250*250, 300*250, 336*280
Personally, I have found 336*280 and 160*600 to be very effective.
You can use ads from multiple publisher IDs, but the total number of content display ads should not go beyond three.
Adsense link units

AdSense link units perform really well when blended with your theme and placed above the fold. I tested this by placing it in the Navbar, and it turns out to be a top performing ad unit.
You can place a maximum of three link units on a page.

Adsense for search

You can add up to two AdSense-for-search units on a page. For a big website, AdSense-for-search units perform really well.  If you have not yet set up AdSense-for-search units, you can read our guide on How to Set Up Adsense for Search.
You can read more about the maximum number of allowable AdSense ad units on the official blog post.  (Ignore the part of the post about the video ad as it is retired now.)
A few things which I have learned from my own experience:

Sometimes 2-ad units perform better than 3-ad units.
Placing ads above the fold yields better results.
A combination of image + text ads perform better.
There are many different options available for the placement of ads, but I highly recommend using a minimum of ad units, or utilizing adverts only at the bottom or at the sidebar.

 It was in August that I started using AdSense, and since then it’s a part of my blog monetization technique. In first 1 years I have earned about 2000/day INR with AdSense, and realized no matter how many Adsense alternatives we talk about, AdSense is by far one of the best contextual and highest paying ad network for any blogger.

I have already shared some of the working tips to increase Adsense revenue but as I mentioned, Adsense is very strict about Adsense TOS, and you have to take care of certain things to stop violating AdSense policies. We all know, getting Adsense approval is not that easy and we need to do many things to keep our AdSense account active.

Recently, I got an Email from Adsense team saying “Adsense serving has been disabled on one of my site” and I realize it’s the right time to update this post and make new AdSense publishers aware of Adsense policies and things to avoid, which may lead to account ban.

Little out of context but since 2011, when Google launched Google Panda, they also made some major changes in Adsense quality guidelines. Especially, in 2011-2012 we have noticed many Indian and Pakistani Adsense publishers has been banned due to copyright violation and due to low-quality pages. Another major reason for Adsense ban is invalid click, which is altogether a big topic, and I will cover it on another post.

Though Google Adsense is very strict about the policies and as I mentioned on my previous post of why I removed Global Translator plugin to save myself from getting banned from Google Adsense.

These are the simple mistakes you and Adsense publisher should avoid getting themselves banned:

Understand Adsense TOS and Stop violating Adsense Policies:

Invalid Clicks:

This is where the maximum Adsense account gets into the danger zone. Most of publisher who starts with Adsense, they usually ask their friend to click on Ads or click on their Ads from different I.P. If Adsense team detect such activity, they put your account in disable mode to ensure and safeguard their Advertisers.

Also, many new publishers ask their readers to click on ads, which is also discouraged by Adsense as stated in their program policies.

Using Adsense on unsupported language blog:

At the time of writing, Google doesn’t support all the languages to qualify for Adsense program. If you have approved AdSense account, and you are using it to show it on the blog whose language don’t qualify Adsense TOS, then make changes asap. Especially, if you are using any method to make your blog multi-lingual and serving Ads on it, this will be considered as a violation.

Here is the list of AdSense supported language.

Maximum Adsense unit on a single page:

AdSense work on simple rule of 1-2-3 to define the maximum number of ad unit on a single page. You can refer to the previous post for more info: Maximum number of the AdSense unit on a single page. Though, this is not any violation of Adsense policies as this could be a mistake, and AdSense won’t show more than three content ad unit unless you are a premium Adsense publisher.

Sending ads on Email:

Many publishers started the trend of sending AdSense adverts within the email, and sometimes it goes viral. Google find it against the program policies.

Advertisement label:

Many publishers started using a trick like click here,   Click to see hot babe, and this also helped to encourage the click. Encourage click? Oh, time to look at point 4. Or you use pop-up script to show Adsense in pop-up and readers have to click on it to read the content, Ahh big no!

Competitive contextual advertisement:

Make sure you don’t use any other contextual advertisement program. Let Google ad sense by your only and favorite advertisement program. Though for monetization you can use many other ad networks and here are some which I have used, and they comply with Adsense TOS. Infolinks, BuySellads, Technorati Media, Viglink.

Until now, AdSense approval process was simple: You create a new AdSense account, your account is reviewed, Adsense team accepts your application, and you can implement ads on your site and start making money.

From now on, Adsense has changed the AdSense approval process, and made is easy for new publishers. Here is the new account approval process:

Ensure your website is compatible with AdSense
Sign up for an AdSense account
Login to your AdSense account

Add the AdSense code

Once you add the code on your blog, that will be showing blank ads. 

In a typical scenario, it would take 48 hours to review your application. Once your application is approved, it would start showing ads on your blog & you will start making money.

Here is the process for AdSense approval:

Register for an AdSense account by going to AdSense.com. Provide all the correct information about your Name, Address, and Website URL.
Login to AdSense account, creates AdSense codes. Place the codes in your blog sidebar.
Ads will shows as blank until final approval process doesn’t finish. It may take about 48 hours to one week for approval.
After the final AdSense approval, you will get a confirmation email.
Once your AdSense earning reaches $10, AdSense will mail you a PIN to your address.
Login to your AdSense account, and enter the Pin once you receive it.
Congrats you have completed all the steps. Once your account reaches $100, Google will send you or wire your earning. I recommend you to enable direct bank transfer for AdSense payments.
Though this will certainly help in domain ownership verification and more over those who are signing up using someone else website, might find it tough to get into Adsense. Nonetheless, if your account is still rejected, it’s time to try out Adsense alternatives.

You have managed to get your website to that magical point where you have established popularity, traffic, loyalty and a community of fans. Your site contains a wealth of information, resources and services that you provide free because that’s just the kind of person you are. You may not have intended to make money from your site but now that you have an audience you realise that it’s possible, or perhaps you have to start thinking about generating income because your costs to manage the site have increased and it’s starting to hurt.

You have been diligent over the years to build up your community, but now you wonder how to go about making some revenue by leveraging this audience (as the marketers would say, you want to monetise your site). Maybe you have some big dreams and plan to one day generate advertising income from your new web project. This is a very common plan for online business given people tend to expect information and services to be free on the web. Advertising may be one of the only revenue generation strategies available to you.

How much traffic do I have to have to make money?

In my experience once you have about 500-1000 unique visitors per day to your site *at least* before you can start to make real money. You can make chimps change from day one from your 50 hits, but this article is targeted at those that have a larger audience, or perhaps are constructing a business plan (either real or in your head) and would like to know how to go about monetising your website. If you get more then 1000 unique visitors a day chances are you already make money from your site (if not you should be!) but my points are still relevant.

As per usual I will illustrate my article using real world examples from what I did to make money. Over about five years I managed a hobby site that started off as a very local site focusing on people in my area that played the game Magic: The Gathering. I wrote reports and did news coverage for the game. Later I expanded the site to Australia and eventually opened it to the world although it remained mostly Australian with a good chunk of Asians and New Zealanders.

Banner programs

At around the time I was getting 500 unique visitors a day I decided to start playing with advertising methods. This was before the advent of Google Adsense (more on this later) but there were many banner programs available that paid either on cost per click (CPC) or per impression basis. An impression is a banner being displayed to a user once, a click is someone clicking the banner and visiting the site being advertised.

These networks act as a middle man between business that want to advertise and people like me that have an audience and want to make some money by displaying banners. Unfortunately these programs display banners that often don’t match your audience. I tried a few but it was a short lived experiment that made me a few dollars if that.

I recommend you avoid any banner programs. If you are confused about what I am talking about regarding banner programs take a look at Burst Media to get a grasp of how they work. For small sites they just don’t make much money. For large sites there are much better ways to make money. I’m sure there are people out there that make good money from these programs (I’m sure the program owners do!) but in my experience a little effort to find the right type of advertising can yield much better results.

I decided the best way to make money was to really leverage the demographics of my audience. I had a fairly focused niche, card game playing young males. I started by emailing all the local and international card game shops and asked if they were interested in exposure to my market. Instantly I had responses but I had to come up with a pricing structure first.

How much should you charge?

By this time my site was getting close to 1000 unique visitors per day, with about 300,000 impressions per month. I had done my research and I knew that advertising on websites

What is Google AdSense?

AdSense is one of the most convenient ways to make additional money from your website.

All you do is copy some code into your site to display the ads, and you earn every time someone clicks. You may also earn from impressions in some cases.

All this is derived from a program they call AdWords (pay per click marketing).

You often see these ads displayed above the free/organic results and along the right side of the page on Google.com.

These are called Sponsored Results, and the advertisers are paying a certain amount of money per click for these ads.

AdSense is your revenue share from AdWords ads. When someone clicks, you earn roughly 68% of the click and Google gets the rest.

AdSense is an auction-based system that allows advertisers to compete for those spots. Whomever has the highest bid and most "quality" ad, gets the top spot and so forth.

It's a great program that can help drive additional income to your website, and it's really best for websites that are mainly content driven.

The more content you have, the more Google can get a sense for what your site is about and better match the ads to your website.

Please make sure you read this entire article. AdSense is not a get-rich-quick scheme and it takes a lot of work to make money. Don't think that just because you join, you are guaranteed to make big moneyHow Much Can You Earn With AdSense?

The commission you receive per click depends on how much advertisers are paying Google for the particular ad. You will earn a share of that amount.  I've heard of earnings anywhere from 2 cents to $15 per click.

Getting over $1 is probably very rare, although it does happen from time to time. However, you will find that most of your earnings will be on the lower end of the spectrum.

It's important to note that I cannot estimate how much you will earn based on your traffic. People always want to know what the average amount is per click.

No one knows the answer to this except Google, so don't let anyone try to tell you any different. It would be impossible for myself or any AdSense publisher to give this information because the ads all cost different prices and we have no idea what advertisers are paying.

However, there are some niches that obviously pay more. So it is logical to believe that keyword phrases like sex, make money, etc. may earn you more per click since these are highly competitive keywords that are searched for quite a bit on

The more competitive the search term, the more the advertisers pay and the more you earn as a publisher.

Even though Google will not reveal how much you are earning for each ad that is clicked from your site, you can still login to your account at any time and see the total amount of revenue you've generated that day, week, month, year, etc.

For example, if you see that you've made $12.60 today from 9 clicks then you can calculate that your average click-thru commission was $1.40 per click.  That's as detailed as their stats will get.  Also remember, that's only an average.  You won't know how much each specific ad brought in.

The amount you'll earn also depends largely on the amount of targeted traffic you receive to your own site, how well the ads match your audience's interests, the placement of the ads on your pages, and of course the amount you receive per click.

Ideally, you should create a site on a topic you know a lot about.  That way you'll have a much easier time creating a generous amount of content on that subject have fun and feel free to comment if you need any help and please share it

As a blogger, you have surely heard of the AdSense program from Google which is regarded as one of the best contextual advertisement programs available.

In this post, I will demonstrate how you can create an AdSense account for your website.

There are many AdSense alternatives available, but no matter what network you try, you will likely find that Adsense is the best.

When I started blogging, “AdSense” was a foreign concept to me. When I initially signed up for AdSense, I needed a lot of help from my friends, and I still was not sure I was doing it right.

For beginners who are not familiar with AdSense, it is an advertisement program for publishers started by Google (See Wiki details), wherein contextual ads are placed on your blog and you get paid when someone clicks on these ads.

In this blog post, I present an essential guide for beginners who are not sure how to apply for AdSense.

There are a couple requirements which you must meet before you can apply for AdSense:

First, of course, you need to have a website.

You also must be above the age of 18, otherwise you will need to apply using the name of a parent or guardian who gives you permission to do so.

Steps to create an AdSense account:

AdSense has recently changed the account approval process to include the following steps:

Sign up for AdSense
Add AdSense ads to your blog
Wait while your account is reviewed and either accepted or rejected
Although the new AdSense account approval process is quite lengthy, the process will ultimately help to maintain the quality of AdSense for all users.

It is also important to make sure your blog or website is abiding by AdSense policies before applying.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating an AdSense Account:

First, go to the Signup page for AdSense.

You will see an option to create a new Google account, or you can choose to use your existing Google account.



Note: If you have a custom domain name & you are using Google Apps for your domain email address, I suggest you use that to sign up for your AdSense account. When you use domain specific email addresses (admin@domain.com), the chances of getting your AdSense application approved is increased by a factor of 3.

Otherwise, you can use your existing gmail address.

Website Details:



This form is straight-forward. You simply need to enter your website address and select the content language. For the website URL use your blog address, and make sure to add it without “http://”.

AdSense contact information:

This is the most important part.

I remember making a couple of mistakes at this part when I first signed up. Hopefully, if you follow this guide, you won’t make the same mistakes.

The “payee name” is very important. Make sure to use the same name under which you have a bank account, as AdSense will be sending you checks or EFT payment under that name.

If you make a mistake here, changing the payee name of your account will be difficult in many countries, including India.

Here is the list of countries which are not allowed to change the payee name after signing up.
So ensure your bank account name and payee name are exactly the same.

Next add your contact information and fill in the other details.

Accept AdSense policies:



Read the AdSense policies and put a checkmark in all three boxes.

Once done, click on “Submit”, and on the next page you can review your details.

Make sure that all the details are accurate and up to date!

Signing up with your email account:

You can use your current email address to sign up, or you can create a new gmail ID just for AdSense. For fast approval, I would suggest you zoho mail. Have fun and make money if it's helpful share it more for everyone and feel free to comment
